A silicone LED sleeve is chosen by matching its inner width and inner height to the measured outer envelope of the strip, then stepping to the nearest stocked size. Measure first, read the section second, and the 8, 10 or 12 mm board width stops being a guess.
| ManufacturingSince 2012 | FPC range4–28 mm | Temperature−40 to +200 °C | Capacity14 extrusion lines |
Length can be cut on site and color can be agreed late, but width decides whether the strip enters the sleeve at all. The sleeve is an enclosure: if the inner width sits below the strip's measured outline, assembly stops; if it sits far above, the board floats and the diode line no longer lands where the face was designed for. Every other dimension can be worked around. Width can only be matched with a different part. On our platform the cavity spans 4–28 mm, so the answer is usually a stocked section rather than a new tool.
Measure the flexible printed circuit, not the finished light strip as it comes off the reel. Three numbers matter: the board width across the FPC, where 8, 10 and 12 mm cover most assemblies; the total thickness at the tallest component, which is usually a resistor or an IC rather than the LED itself; and the height of any solder pad or connector that stands above the face.
Use a caliper on a flat surface and read at two or three points along the run, because a strip that has been coiled for a while can sit slightly bowed. Measure across the pads where they widen the outline — the largest outline is what has to pass through the sleeve — and include any connector that is already soldered.
For a silicone LED sleeve, inner width and inner height are cavity dimensions, measured across the inside of the section rather than over the outer wall. In the stocked range the inner width runs 8.8–13 mm across the sections that serve 8, 10 and 12 mm boards, the inner height is typically 2.8 mm, and the wall is 0.5–0.6 mm. Two-color no-dot sections move to an inner height of 2.5–2.9 mm and an inner width of 11–13 mm.
| Section | Inner width | Inner height | Wall | Packing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Four-square, grooved, D and U | 8.8–13 mm | 2.8 mm | 0.5–0.6 mm | 200 m per roll |
| Two-color no-dot | 11–13 mm | 2.5–2.9 mm | 0.5–0.6 mm | 5 m per piece |
Read the table from the cavity outward: the board width you measured has to fall inside the inner width of the row you pick, and the tallest component has to clear the inner height.
The right clearance is what makes a silicone LED sleeve work in practice: the strip should slide in under light hand pressure and then stay where it is put. Too tight and the wall is stretched over the board, which loads the solder joints and can lift a pad; too loose and the strip rides up in the cavity, the diode line drifts off the optical axis, and the ends are harder to seal because the strip shifts while the seal is applied. The stocked inner widths sit just above the board widths they serve, which is why an 8 mm board belongs in an 8.8 mm cavity rather than the next size up.
A stocked silicone LED sleeve covers 8, 10 and 12 mm board widths, and most projects should be designed around them. The wider platform covers 4–28 mm flexible printed circuits, so a 6 mm or a 20 mm strip is a section we can extrude rather than a request we decline. The distinction matters when you ask for a price: a stocked width is quoted from the current list, while a width outside it is a new-extrusion question: the section drawing and the annual volume are what the tooling position is quoted against.
Shape decides how a silicone LED sleeve is fixed, not how much light it passes. A four-square section is the general-purpose choice, a grooved version clips into a rail, a D-shape gives a curved face for surface mounting and a U-shape drops the strip into a narrow slot. Two-color construction adds an opaque body around a diffusing window when the diode line must not show. The silicone LED diffuser and sleeve range lists them by section.
A silicone LED sleeve in four-square, grooved, D or U section ships at 200 m per roll. Two-color no-dot sections are packed at 5 m per piece, because the co-extruded body is harder to coil without marking, and the aluminium-channel cover comes at 100 m per roll. State the cut lengths as well as the total metres on the enquiry — one 200 m coil and the same metres cut into 2 m pieces are different jobs at the packing bench.
Six inputs turn a question into a quotation: the measured FPC width; the total strip thickness at the tallest component; the quantity and the cut lengths; the section shape; the color, including whether the face has to be milky or clear; and the protection the installation needs, such as splash, handling or dust. Add a photo of the strip against a ruler if a drawing is not ready. ROHS, REACH and UL94 HB documentation is held at raw-material level, and product-specific test reports can be arranged per project. The stocked silicone sleeve for LED strip page shows the sizes those inputs usually resolve to.
Yes, but it will not be held. A 10 mm cavity is sized around a 10 mm board, so an 8 mm strip has room to shift sideways and the diode line can drift off the optical axis, which shows as uneven brightness. Choose the section built for the 8 mm board.
Across the inside of the cavity, wall to wall, not over the outside of the extrusion. With a wall of 0.5–0.6 mm the outside reads wider, so an external measurement can make a correctly sized part look too small. Ask for the drawing with inner dimensions marked.
The platform covers 4–28 mm flexible printed circuits, so the range is real, but the stocked widths are 8, 10 and 12 mm. A width inside the range and outside the stock needs a section drawing and a volume before it can be quoted as a new extrusion.
Yes. Four-square, grooved, D and U sections are quoted at 200 m per roll, and the delivery can be cut to the lengths the line needs. Send the cut list with the total metres, because packing and coil handling are planned from that list.
Yes. Send the strip width and thickness and we return a section drawing with inner width, inner height and wall marked, so the fit can be checked before an order is placed. Two-color sections are drawn separately because their cavity differs.
Send the measured strip envelope, the quantity and the cut lengths. If the width is between stocked sizes, say so: the closest cavity can be checked against the strip in a drawing before anyone commits to a tool. For the structure behind the section choice, read silicone LED diffuser structure and sizes.
Need the right sleeve for your strip?
Send the strip width, the height at the tallest component and the total metres — 8, 10 or 12 mm stock sizes, or a width inside the 4–28 mm platform — and we reply with the section that fits and the packing it ships in.
