Custom Construction
Steel wire braided silicone hose is a custom construction, supplied on request rather than held in stock. It uses the same platinum-cured silicone base and the same specification set as our polyester braided hose, and it is designed for higher pressure requirements. Every build is quoted against your specification.
| Bore range3–31.75 mm, quoted | VacuumFully vacuum capable | Continuous temp−40 to +200 °C | SupplyCustom build, per spec |
A steel wire braided hose carries a reinforcement of 304 stainless steel wire — a helix or a crossed braid around the bore — encapsulated between an inner silicone tube and an outer silicone jacket. The wire never meets the fluid, and the bore stays smooth, cleanable and inspectable.
The split of work is deliberate. The silicone handles the fluid: medical and food-grade, platinum-cured, the surface your product touches. The wire handles the duty: it restrains the wall when the line is loaded.
A metal layer behaves differently from a textile braid: firmer through a bend, heavier, and engineered for duty rather than selected from a table. That is why it is a custom construction, not a catalogue item.
We do not print pressure, burst or vacuum figures for it: a rating belongs to a tested build, not a page.
Both constructions belong to the same reinforced hose family. What separates them is the reinforcement and the way each is supplied. The comparison is qualitative: nothing in it ranks one above the other.
| Aspect | Polyester braid | Steel wire braid |
|---|---|---|
| Reinforcement | High-temperature polyester yarn, braided | 304 stainless steel wire, helix or crossed braid |
| Supply model | Standard range, with published model data | Custom build, made to order |
| Flexibility | Softer, easier through cramped routing | Firmer at the bend, less tolerant of tight radii |
| Intended duty | Most pressure and vacuum lines in equipment | Duty beyond the standard braid's expected range |
| Quotation basis | Per model and quantity | Per specification and duty |
Read it as a fork, not a ranking. The polyester braid is the natural starting point for most projects: a standard product with published data, in-stock samples and a short lead time. The steel build is the next step when that cannot cover the duty.
All three reinforcement types — polyester braid, mesh braid and steel wire braid — are built on one specification set. The reinforcement changes; the material and the dimensions do not.
A steel wire project therefore does not normally reopen the material qualification. If your file already accepts the polyester braided hose on material grounds, the steel build starts from the same silicone and the same dimensional envelope. What remains is the mechanical behavior of the reinforcement — a project question, not a catalogue one.
Cleanroom and certification attach to the order, not to the structure. They change how the run is set up, so fix them at quotation.
Suitability is evaluated per project. The question is not whether steel is stronger, but whether the duty needs a reinforcement the standard braid was never designed to provide.
Atmospheric or low-pressure lines, static runs with generous bends, and projects that need published data and in-stock samples are normally served by the standard construction. Over-specifying adds cost and lead time for nothing.
To have either option evaluated, send the medium, working and peak pressure, vacuum level, temperatures, bend radius, connections at each end, and any certification or cleanroom requirement. We reply with a construction proposal and its rating, in writing, before anything is sampled.
A steel wire build is quoted from specification, so the first message does most of the work. A complete enquiry gets a proposal and price in one round.
| Stage | Lead time |
|---|---|
| Samples held in stock (standard build) | Dispatched within 3 days |
| Standard items | Typically 5–7 days |
| Custom builds, including steel wire | Typically 10–20 working days, depending on specification and quantity |
Connectors can be integrated on request: NPT, BSP, JIC or sanitary-clamp ends are sourced through our partner network and supplied as an assembly. The silicone hose is the part we make; the non-silicone hardware is not manufactured in our plant.
Can a steel wire braided hose be used on an oxygen concentrator?
Yes, as a custom build. Mesh-braided and steel-wire-braided constructions are available as custom options for higher pressure requirements, and both can serve concentrator circuits. Most lines are served by the standard polyester braid, so qualify that first.
Are the specifications different from the polyester braided hose?
No. All three reinforcement types share one specification set: platinum-cured medical and food-grade silicone, ID 3 to 31.75 mm, −40 to +200 °C (−40 to +392 °F) continuous, full vacuum service, ROHS, FDA, LFGB and NSF compliance, not for human implant. Only the reinforcement differs. The eleven-model table belongs to the standard polyester braided range; a steel wire build is quoted to your bore.
Do you publish a pressure or burst rating for the steel wire build?
Not as a published table. Ratings are confirmed per project, once working and peak pressure, vacuum level, temperature and bend radius are known. You receive the figure for the build you are buying, in writing.
Which certificates can be supplied with it?
Class 100,000 cleanroom production, ISO 10993 biocompatibility three reports (cytotoxicity, skin sensitization, skin irritation) and ISO 13485 can be provided according to customer requirements. The material also sits against ROHS, FDA, LFGB and NSF. Tell us which documents your file needs.
Can I get a sample before placing an order?
For the standard polyester construction, in-stock samples ship in 3 days. A steel wire build is sampled once the construction is agreed, so the sample represents the build you will receive.
What is the minimum order quantity and the price?
Both follow from the construction and the run length, so we quote them together. Send the specification and expected quantity; the quotation will state price, minimum quantity and lead time.
Send the bore, medium, working and peak pressure, vacuum level, temperature range, bend radius, connections and documents your file requires. If the duty is borderline, say so: the honest answer may be that the standard polyester braid is the better buy.
Need a steel wire braided hose quoted?
Send the duty and the dimensions, and we will come back with the construction, its rating and the lead time.
